How safe is a Gastric Band?


Adjustable gastric Band Surgery which is a kind of weight loss surgery is suggested by doctors for losing weight only when there is no other option available for losing extra body weight or the obese person had tried all other method including dieting or exercise to lose weight and not been successful.

The surgery is generally performed under anesthesia and during the surgery procedure a silicon belt is placed in the upper part of the stomach that creates a small pouch in the upper portion and the food from this pouch goes into the lower portion of the stomach through a narrow opening that is made by band dividing the stomach in two parts. To prevent these risks and complications associated with surgery the person should adopt some useful life style changes before and after surgery. The person should avoid taking high calorie foods and take smaller meals. Exercise should be adopted as a part of daily routine.
