Different techniques are used to perform this. This is open surgery. It alters the anatomy of stomach to reduce of food intake amount. Mortality rate of gastric bypass is about 2% and the recovery time of this surgery is around 3 to 5 weeks. After this you will be able to do your normal activities. It requires stay in hospital for long time. Risks are with during surgery and after surgery. There are some diet plans which you need to follow to make this surgery successful. Consult with your surgeon about this. You need to take vitamin or other supplements to avoid any nutritional deficiency.

Gastric band

Gastric band surgery use adjustable gastric band as restrictive device to restrict the capacity of stomach. Laparoscopically by making small incisions around abdomen band is placed around stomach (not open surgery) and tie to divide stomach in two parts in which upper part is small and lower part is large. Upper part holds small quantity of food and takes time to pass through narrow passages made by band to small intestine and thus in small quantity of food you will feel full for long period of time. Adjustable gastric Lap band is example of this.
