REALIZE adjustable gastric band is U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medical device used for the treatment of morbid obesity and obesity related problem. Band is marketed by Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc under the name of Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band (SAGB). This is new option for adjustable gastric banding. Implantation of band is less risky and minimally invasive procedure. This is not new product. Since 1996 it was available outside the U.S. It has been used in more than 100,000 gastric banding surgeries worldwide. It has the experience of more than 20 years.

Procedure

REALIZE adjustable gastric band placed laparoscopically this means Small incisions are made on abdomen to insert band system. Through one incision small camera is inserted and from any one of the incision, band is placed. Band is wrapped around the stomach to create two pouches of stomach –small pouch (upper part) and large pouch (lower part) with the help of camera to see band placement is right or not. Just because of the small pouch you can now hold small amount of food and it makes you feel full faster and for long time and thus it slow your digestion and reduce easting time and volume. This way you tend to lose your overweight and within 1 year it determines to lose up to 40% of your overweight and 43% within 3 years (it also differ from patients to patients). The whole procedure take around 30 minutes to 1 hour and now you ready for going home after one day. During this procedure patients are kept under anesthesia.

Once the REALIZE adjustable gastric band placed, port is attached to abdominal wall underneath the skin and connected to the band via tubing.
